We are pleased to announce that Kevin Hooke of Westbrook has been chosen as the recipient of our 2010 $500 Scholarship. Kevin will be attending the University of Miami working towards a Bachelors degree in Architecture.

OOB Police Facility Groundbreaking

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday, June 7, 2010 to kick off the start of construction activities for the new Old Orchard Beach Police Station. Speakers included Jack Turcotte, Town Manager; Mike Tousignant, Town Council Vice Chair; Dana Kelley, Chief of Police; Mike Nugent, Code Enforcement Officer; and Kevin Reilley, President of Benchmark.

This new 9,984 square foot facility will be located at 16 E Emerson Cummings Blvd. Benchmark and Foreside Architects are pleased to have been selected as the Design/Build Contractors for the Town of Old Orchard Beach. LEAD-SAFE CERTIFIED FIRM

Benchmark is pleased to announce that we have fulfilled the requirements of the Toxic Substances Control Act and have received certification through the United States Environmental ProtectionAgency to conduct lead-based paint renovation, repair and painting activities. This certification is valid through June of 2015.

Nine Stones

Benchmark has been selected as Construction Manager for Nine Stones Spa on Commercial Street. Nine Stones is owned by Pam Macomber and is Portland’s most prestigious spa. Nine Stones is located in an 1880′s former processing plant that Benchmark originally transformed into a elegant space in 2004. Benchmark is currently engaged in expanding the floor plan.

Employees Receive Certification

Eight of our Superintendents and Project Managers attended an 8 hour Lead Paint Certification training on April 15, 2010. Sponsored by the EPA, this training requires that anyone involved in the construction industry be certified by April 22, 2010.

Intern Accepted At Technology School

We are proud to announce that David Dang, Benchmark Intern, has been accepted to the New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island. He will be receiving his BS degree in Architectural Building Engineering Technology. Upon completion, he plans to continue his education by pursing a Masters Degree at Boston Architectural College.

Brunswick Tractor Supply Ground Breaking Held

A ground breaking ceremony was held on Thursday, March 25th at 24 Farley Road in Brunswick for their newest retail location in Maine. This marks the 6th new TSC location constructed by Benchmark. Another will be underway in Sanford in the next month. Stores are now open in Augusta, Oxford, Lewiston, Presque Isle and Wilton.

Baxter Building Ground Breaking

A ground breaking ceremony was held on March 11, 2010 to celebrate the first step toward renovating the 121-year-old Baxter Library Building on Congress Street in Portland.

Approximately 50 people were in attendance.

The Maine College of Art recently sold the property to Northland Enterprises, LLC, which is overseeing the complete renovation of the building. Northland brought in Archetype Architects, Benchmark Construction and Scott Simons Architects to work on the project, which is expected to be complete in August 2010. Northland will lease the property to The VIA Group.

The project is a Historic Renovation project that is approved and monitored by the National Park Service. It is one of the first commercial uses of the new Maine State Historic Tax Credit program.

Baxter will be a LEED silver equivalent building when the work is done, meanoing it will earn the points necessar for silver certification. All of the woodwork and library shelving will be preserved and integrated into the new design.
