Birch Hill Senior Housing – Lewiston, Maine
Completed in 2010, this project was made possible with the support of the Lewiston Housing Authority, MaineHousing, Coastal Enterprises, Inc, Developers Collaborative and Northeast Bank.
Birch Hill was constructed on a chanllenging site that had been vacant for 15 years. Located on the corners of Birch and Bates Street, the facility is targeted at seniors age 55 and older who are below 60% of the Area Median Income.
The 20 unit complex consists of one and two bedroom apartments with 5 fully handicapped accessible units. This 3 story facility is equipped with and elevator, laundry facilities, recycling area, community room, Internet access and security system.
Birch Hill was build in accordance with MaineHousing Green Building Standards. The blower door test performed by Development Services of N.E. received the best results of any project evaluated to date. A strict Construction Waste Management Program yielded a total of 89.05% of all project waste being recycled.
