Located in Wiscasset, Maine, Rynel is the leading manufacturer of specialty hydrophilic polyurethene foams.

Benchmark was retained to design and construct a new corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility. The owners selected a Murox® Performance Building featuring excellent insulating properties and a faster erection schedule than conventional construction.

This 40,000sf facility is located on the site of the former Maine Yankee Nuclear Power Plant.

Benchmark worked with Efficiency Maine to reduce electrical loads, incorporating energy efficient lighting systems, compressors, and electrical motors. Efficiency Maine reviewed the construction drawings to evaluate electrical savings potential. Skylights were added to the warehouse and office areas to provide natural day light. The office areas have a radiant concrete slab at the perimeter for comfort and reduced heating costs. The exterior’s design will accommodate a 1,000sf solar air heater that can be retro-fitted onto the southern side of the building in the future.
